Banned Pesticide Found in Moroccan Melons Imported to Spain, EU Alerted
After the batches of Moroccan strawberries contaminated with hepatitis A, the Spanish authorities have just issued a new health alert concerning a batch of melons from Morocco containing a high level of chlorpyrifos, a pesticide banned in the EU since 2019.

The Spanish authorities informed the European Union on Friday of the entry into their market of a shipment of Moroccan melons containing residues of chlorpyrifos, a pesticide considered dangerous and banned in the EU.
The alert was issued from the border with Morocco. Analysis of this batch of Moroccan melons confirmed the presence of 0.021 mg/kg of this pesticide, while the maximum level is 0.01 mg/kg.
