19 buildings and 6 million tyres a year: the immense Chinese factory being prepared in Tangier
The Guizhou Tyre project in Tangier is entering a much more concrete phase. A new tender reveals the scale of the future Chinese factory: more than 20 hectares, 19 buildings in the first phase and an initial capacity of 6 million tyres a year.
Published on 12 August, the tender launched by Guizhou Tyre concerns the design of the complex planned in the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City. The Chinese group has a plot of approximately 208 111 m² and plans, for the first phase, nearly 185 771 m² of construction.

This first phase is to comprise 19 buildings housing production units, warehouses, auxiliary facilities, as well as administrative and service premises. The complex is expected to produce 6 million radial tyres annually for passenger cars.
But the site has been designed to go much further. A second tender document specifies that the land is planned for a total capacity of 12 million tyres per year, divided into two phases. For now, only the first phase of 6 million tyres has been committed.
Nearly 300 million dollars for the first phase
Guizhou Tyre announced the project in January. In its official document addressed to investors, the manufacturer puts the initial investment at exactly 298.72 million dollars, including 293 million devoted to construction. The project is expected to take approximately two years.
The group estimates that once this first factory is fully operational, it could generate average annual revenue of 182.5 million dollars and 40.9 million dollars in pre-tax profit. Guizhou Tyre nevertheless stresses that these are projections based on current economic conditions and not guaranteed results.
The project reached a new stage in August with the completion of the Chinese procedures required for investment abroad. The launch of the design tenders the following day shows that the group is now concretely preparing to build the site.

The project has not yet reached the construction stage. Guizhou Tyre must notably finalize the procedures related to its establishment in the industrial zone and to the creation of its Moroccan subsidiary. The candidates responsible for designing the factory have until 2 September to submit their bids, with a period of 90 days planned to carry out the studies after the contract is awarded.
