COVID-19 Disrupts Eid Al Adha Traditions: 73% of Moroccans Celebrate at Home
As expected, the health crisis has major repercussions on the celebration of Eid Al Adha this year. Thus, 73% of Moroccans have decided to spend this period at home, abandoning the tradition of family visits or apartment rentals.
This is data from the results of the survey conducted by ThinkOne Research & Consulting on the habits of Moroccans during the Eid Al Adha period this year.
In detail, we learn that only 16% of them plan to travel, mainly to visit relatives, and only 4% intend to go to a hotel or rent an apartment. 73% of respondents said they want to spend the Eid Al-Adha period at home, 9% at relatives in the same city, and 12% at relatives in other cities.
Obviously for many, it is the current context marked by the health crisis. Thus, 21% mention the health restrictions, against 6% who are afraid of being contaminated by Covid-19. The lack of financial means is mentioned by 22% of the respondents.
As for the preferred destinations of Moroccans during this holiday period, Agadir tops the list (13%), followed by Nador and Al Hoceima (8%), Casablanca (6%) and Rabat (5%).
As for the means of transport, the car is the preferred choice. Indeed, 46% of respondents plan to take the road with their cars. 19% have chosen buses, compared to 15% for those who plan to travel by train. Only 4% plan to travel by plane.
In terms of activities during this period, we note that 22% plan to go to the beach, 21% plan to frequent cafes, and 6% plan to go shopping. Only 4% plan to go to a restaurant.
