Spain and Morocco maintained their cooperation in the fight against terrorism at the height of the diplomatic crisis that opened in May. Several arrests of terrorists would have been jointly carried out by the intelligence services of the two countries during this critical period.

Some Moroccans in Algeria do not seem to be concerned about the Algerian decision to break its diplomatic relations with Morocco. Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra has also reassured them that they are living "in the best possible conditions".
Spain is concerned about Algeria’s intention to renounce the gas pipeline that has been supplying it for twenty years via Morocco. Moreover, the Iberian peninsula fears the huge loss that the three countries would suffer if the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline is not renewed after October 31, the date of its expiration.
Moroccan and Algerian personalities have, in a petition, expressed their great concern about the current escalation in relations between Rabat and Algiers. They call "on all people and organizations of goodwill in the two countries, and beyond the Maghreb, to act for a return to reason".
