Eid al-Fitr 2026: Will French Muslims (finally) manage to agree?
Nine French Muslim associations have launched an appeal for consultation to harmonize the determination of the dates of the liturgical calendar in France. This initiative aims to avoid divergences in the upcoming announcement of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
Faced with sometimes divergent announcements marking the beginning or end of the sacred month, these mosque leaders wish to establish a common dynamic. The objective is to strengthen the clarity and unity around the setting of the major religious dates.
The approach plans to organize a consultation meeting between the departmental structures, the federations and the mosques. A joint press release will be published in a timely manner to inform the faithful of the date chosen for the end of Ramadan.
"It is particularly important to us that the Eid al-Fitr celebration be celebrated in unity and harmony," the signatories emphasize. They believe that division during this moment of sharing would be contrary to its profound essence.
Drawing on Quranic teachings and the prophetic tradition, this appeal reminds that fasting and sacrifice are collective acts. The long-term initiative hopes to rally as many leaders as possible to guarantee national cohesion.
