Filipino Veteran Donaire Knocks Out Oubaali to Claim WBC Bantamweight Title
The Franco-Moroccan boxer Nordine Oubaali lost his WBC bantamweight title. He was knocked out in the fourth round by veteran Filipino Nonito Donaire in a fight that took place in Carson, California.
Nordine Oubaali is no longer the WBC bantamweight world champion. The Franco-Moroccan lost his fight against veteran Filipino Nonito Donaire, after three well-led rounds. The Filipino got the better of him in the fourth round, with a combination of right and left hooks.
Mission accomplished then for Nonito who dreamed of dethroning Oubaali. "When I went back to the gym for this fight, I could feel that the power, speed, and explosiveness were there again," Donaire said.
On his side, Oubaali expressed his disappointment. "The first rounds were going so well that I told myself I could do even more... Against experienced boxers, we don’t have the right to make mistakes and I paid dearly for this mistake," Oubaali said on the microphone of RMC Sport after the fight.
Oubaali, a two-time Olympian, now has a record of 17-1 with 12 KOs. Nonito, for his part, has a record of 41-6 with 27 KOs.
