France frees this Moroccan mother of six… then reschedules her deportation
The 40-year-old Moroccan woman, mother of six children, who had been held since Sunday at the Metz detention centre, has finally been reunited with her family. But her respite could be very short-lived: a new flight to Morocco has already been scheduled for 23 August.
On Friday 14 August late in the morning, the liberty and custody judge at the Metz judicial court lifted her detention order. The mother was thus able to return to Vesoul to her husband and six children after five days of separation.

Her obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), however, remains in force. And the prefecture has not abandoned her deportation. “A plane has already been scheduled for her on 23 August, in order to deport her to Morocco,” her lawyer, Me Florent Diaz, told L’Est Républicain.
The Moroccan woman had been arrested on Sunday 9 August when she went to the Vesoul police station to report, as required under her house arrest order. Transferred to the Metz detention centre, she was already due to be deported to Morocco the following day. Feeling unwell on the way to the airport had prevented her from boarding.
Her 21-month-old baby hospitalized
During her absence, the condition of her youngest child deteriorated sharply. Aged 21 months and still being breastfed, the baby had to be hospitalized after stopping eating, according to the lawyer. The other five children attend school in Vesoul.
The father, who arrived legally in France before his wife, holds a residence permit and works as a heavy-goods vehicle driver at the Stellantis plant in Vesoul. The family has been living in France for several years.
The release decided on Friday therefore resolves nothing in substance. Me Diaz now believes that “it would take a miracle in nine days” to prevent the scheduled departure.
A rally is due to take place this Saturday 15 August at 6 p.m. in front of the Haute-Saône prefecture. The family’s supporters hope that this mobilization will persuade the administration, or even the Interior Ministry, to reconsider its position before 23 August.
