France Reaffirms Support for Morocco's Sahara Autonomy Plan as UN-Led Talks Continue
France renewed, on Monday, its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as a "serious and credible basis" to help resolve the dispute over the Sahara.
According to the spokeswoman for the Quai d’Orsay, Anne-Claire Legendre, the French government will continue its support for the political process led by the UN. "It is through dialogue that common challenges can be overcome," she said.
France’s statement follows Spain’s new position in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The Spanish government has officially stated that Morocco’s autonomy plan is the "most" credible and effective solution to end the conflict.
France will also maintain good diplomatic relations with neighboring EU countries as well as with non-EU countries, the Quai d’Orsay added.
