Moroccans have lost confidence in the government’s management of hydrocarbon prices, whose head Aziz Akhannouch is the main shareholder of Afriquia, a Moroccan fuel distribution company, a subsidiary of the Akwa group. They also express their dissatisfaction with the situation of the Société Anonyme Marocaine de l’Industrie du Raffinage (SAMIR).

Fuel prices in Morocco have recorded a 2.5% increase per liter at the pump, driven by the rise in the price of a barrel on international markets.

Turkey is once again emerging as the main consumer of Russian diesel in June. This is the trend observed in trade flows, according to data provided by Refinitiv Eikon and corroborated by traders. Morocco is also well positioned.

Since this morning, Moroccan motorists are facing an increase in pump prices. According to information provided by the National Federation of Owners, Merchants and Managers of Service Stations in Morocco (FNPCGS), a 26-cent per liter increase for gasoline and 15 cents for diesel is displayed.

Moroccan motorists can rejoice! Fuel distributors are forecasting a new drop in diesel and gasoline prices starting this Tuesday, May 16 at 11:50 p.m. This announcement comes after a first drop last week, confirming a general trend but which remains fragile.

While the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) against Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine are maintained, Morocco is considering importing Russian fuel, the kingdom facing a surge in hydrocarbon prices.
