Hashish traveled from Morocco to Antwerp… inside furniture
A furniture store in Borgerhout, Antwerp, allegedly served as a front for a hashish trafficking operation between Morocco and Belgium. The drugs were allegedly transported hidden inside furniture, while some of the money was subsequently reinvested in Morocco.
The case dates back to 2025, when the Belgian justice system began taking an interest in the business’s activities. According to the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, which made the investigation public this Thursday, August 13, hashish was allegedly concealed in furniture transported from Morocco to Belgium.

Investigators thus suspect a genuine round-trip operation: the drugs left Morocco hidden inside furniture, and the proceeds from the alleged trafficking were subsequently partly reinvested in the Kingdom.
On June 30, several searches were carried out on the investigating judge’s orders. The store’s 61-year-old owner was arrested and placed under an arrest warrant the following day on suspicion of trafficking narcotics and/or psychotropic substances as part of an association.
The council chamber has since confirmed that he will remain in detention. He must appear before it again on August 19.
The store also operated beyond the tax authorities’ radar
The investigation revealed another irregularity. The business allegedly continued operating even though no tax return had been filed since 2019 and the company no longer even had a VAT number.
This allegedly did not prevent its owner from continuing to receive payments. Investigators also noted cash deposits into his accounts.

Following the searches, the justice system ultimately sealed the store. The investigation continues under the direction of an investigating judge and is being conducted by the local criminal investigation unit of the Antwerp police.
