In prison, Yassine allegedly organized from a distance an arson attack that killed seven people
Yassine K. was already behind bars when an arson attack killed seven members of the same family in Nice. Two years later, investigators suspect him of remotely organizing the commando operation behind the tragedy.
The 26-year-old allegedly used Snapchat from his cell, among other means. According to Le Parisien, he operated under the pseudonym “Yass95100” while incarcerated in Strasbourg in connection with another murder case. Investigators consider him the operation’s main alleged organizer.

The events date back to the night of July 17–18, 2024, in the Moulins district. Several men had entered a building and set fires on the lower floors before fleeing. The flames spread to the upper levels and trapped a family living on the seventh floor. Seven people lost their lives.
The investigation has since established that this family was not involved in the conflict behind the expedition. The theory adopted by the justice system is that of a settling of scores against a backdrop of drug trafficking.
Instructions allegedly issued from his cell
It is now Yassine K.’s alleged role that is of particular interest to investigators. Despite being incarcerated, he allegedly took part in preparing the operation and remotely organized the intervention of the men sent to the scene.
On Tuesday, officers from the Nice judicial police went to collect him from Nancy prison, where he was being held at the time. He was placed in police custody on the investigating judge’s warrant in charge of the case, a measure confirmed by the Nice prosecutor.
The case saw a new development this Thursday, August 13: Yassine K. was brought before the investigating judge, and the prosecution requested that he be placed in pretrial detention in connection with this case. He was already incarcerated in connection with another proceeding.

Two years after the fire, the investigation is therefore still seeking to reconstruct the entire chain of decisions that led to the tragedy: from those who allegedly ordered the expedition to the men who entered the building.
