Israel and Arab countries: Benkirane calls for diplomatic action after Qatar attack

During a meeting on Saturday, Benkirane addressed the Arab and Muslim leaders due to take part in the Doha summit starting this Monday, following Israel’s aggression against Doha: “I would have liked Arab countries to take concrete measures, because whoever attacked Qatar will respect no one, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.”

The secretary-general of the PJD also expressed his wish to see the leaders of Arab and Muslim countries “act in a way that preserves our dignity and makes us feel safe and reassured in our homes and on our lands,” adding that “citizens of countries allied with the United States, including Morocco, are not safe after the Israeli occupation targeted Qatar.”

He continued: “We are not asking Arab and Muslim leaders to declare war on Israel, but what is the point of a policy of friendship with Israel?! Now, the least we must do is sever diplomatic relations with the Zionists, and if that does not happen, the ambassadors must be recalled and protests lodged against them.” For Benkirane, Israel’s aggression against Qatar is “a heinous crime” and a “violation of international law.” He also made a point of praising the resilience of the Palestinian people.

Finally, the official said he hoped that “Arab and Muslim leaders would take, during the Doha summit, measures confirming at least that they are not colluding with the occupation,” stressing that “no Arab country is safe today from any aggression by Israel after the aggression against Doha.”
