Israel buys far more Moroccan products than its statistics show
Moroccan products sold to Israel are nearly four times more significant when their true origin is considered rather than the country from which they are invoiced. A discrepancy of more than 33 million dollars appears in Israel’s own customs data.

In the first half of 2026, the general table of Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) records only 11.5 million dollars (107 million dirhams) in imports from Morocco. In the other direction, Israel sold 94 million dollars’ (874.3 million dirhams’) worth of goods to the Kingdom. Trade thus reached 105.5 million dollars, up 69.6% year-on-year.

But the detailed customs files from the same body tell a different story. When imports are classified according to the country of origin of the goods, Moroccan products entering Israel reached 44.6 million dollars (415.2 million dirhams) between January and June, nearly four times as much.
More than 33 million dollars in discrepancy
The difference stems from the accounting method. The Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics specifies that its detailed files classify imports by “country of origin,” whereas its general table uses the country of purchase.
Thus, approximately 33.1 million dollars’ worth of goods originating in Morocco do not appear to have been purchased directly from Morocco. They were recorded with another country of purchase or invoicing. However, the data do not make it possible to identify these intermediary countries.
Using this second method, Morocco-Israel trade reached 138.4 million dollars, or approximately 1.3 billion dirhams, compared with 103.2 million a year earlier. The increase then stands at 34%, and Morocco’s deficit at 49.1 million dollars, compared with 82.5 million under the accounting method based on country of purchase.
The detailed files also show that clothing, vehicles, sugars and confectionery alone account for 70.6% of goods originating in Morocco imported into Israel. In the other direction, Israeli sales to Morocco consist mainly of chemical products, machinery and electrical equipment, as well as seeds and planting seeds.

The discrepancy therefore does not mean that these goods evade customs. It mainly shows that a significant share of Moroccan products statistically disappears from the direct Morocco-Israel trade relationship when the country of invoicing is considered instead of their actual origin.
