“ It frightens me”: Jamel Debbouze’s son is nevertheless getting closer to professional football
Léon Debbouze, 17, wants to make football his profession. After a season with the PSG association’s U18 team, Jamel Debbouze’s son has just had a trial with Angers’ under-19 team, watched by his father.
On Saturday, August 8, Jamel Debbouze was not seated in the stands at the Parc des Princes, where he is a regular. The actor had taken a much more discreet seat at the small Salpinte stadium in Angers to watch a friendly match between SCO’s U19 team and Laval.

The reason for this trip was on the pitch: Léon Debbouze was among the players being tested by Angers. Aged 17, the attack-minded central midfielder is attempting to take a new step in a career that could lead him toward professional football, reports Le Parisien.
From PSG to a trial at Angers
Last season, Léon played with the Paris Saint-Germain association’s U18 team in Régional 2. His move to Angers therefore marks an attempt to move closer to a professional structure and a higher level of competition. His trial took place during the young Angers players’ 2–1 defeat to Laval.
For Jamel Debbouze, this ambition is not entirely reassuring. In February 2025, he said that his son had taken up football relatively late before this passion came to occupy a considerable place in his life. “My eldest started playing football late. And it became an obsession. It frightens me,” he said at the time.

A year and a half later, this “obsession” has now taken Léon to Angers’ doorstep. There is still no indication that his trial will lead to him joining the club. But at 17, Jamel Debbouze’s son is clearly trying to turn a passion that began late into a genuine football career.
