Malika El Aroud, convicted of terrorism in 2008, died at the age of 64. This woman, who had dual Belgian and Moroccan nationality, had been stripped of her Belgian nationality in 2017 for having "seriously failed in her duties as a Belgian citizen". The Belgian authorities had initiated deportation proceedings against her, but her lawyer had filed a request for political asylum which had been refused.
Morocco refuses to cooperate in the extradition of Malika El Aroud , who is nicknamed the "black widow" of jihadism. The announcement was made on Monday by Sammy Mahdi, the Secretary of State for Asylum.

A ruling by the Council for Alien Law Litigation, dated this Friday, could trigger the procedure for removing Malika El Aroud, a woman with multiple extravagant nicknames such as "The Black Widow of Jihad" or "The Fiancée of the Jihadists", from Belgium to Morocco. She had been sentenced to eight years in prison in 2010.
The Moroccan Malika El Aroud will learn on Thursday the decision on her appeal against the rejection of her asylum application in Belgium.
