Moroccan Lawmaker Faces Attempted Murder Charges in Rabat Villa Assault Case
After two weeks of detention in the Al Arjat prison, deputy Yassine Radi, involved in a case of attempted murder, was presented on Wednesday before the investigating judge, along with his two co-defendants, a student and a businessman.
During this first hearing, the investigating judge reminded the three defendants of the charges brought against them. They are notably being prosecuted for attempted voluntary manslaughter, failure to assist a person in danger, failure to report a crime, arranging a place of debauchery and contempt of court, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
The facts date back to May 15, when the father of a girl assaulted in a villa in an upscale neighborhood of Rabat during a turbulent evening filed a complaint with the Agdal Souissi police. After investigation, the agents discovered that the villa in question belonged to Yassine Radi, a deputy of the UC in the constituency of Sidi Slimane.
The victim, hospitalized and in critical condition, claims to have been assaulted and pushed from the top of a balcony, causing her several fractures. She specifies in her statement that she had accompanied, at her request, a friend who was visiting her aunt residing in a villa in the Hay Ryad neighborhood.
But, she points out, she found herself in the company of Yassine Radi and the businessman, his friend and co-defendant. According to her, it was the latter who sexually harassed her and pushed her from the first-floor balcony of the villa. She was then taken to the Cheikh Zaid hospital by her friend.
