While many students struggle to find housing in France, Compiègne stands out as an exception. Maria, who came from Casablanca, chose a Crous room for 280 euros to limit her expenses and avoid complicated procedures.
For many families, the search for student housing in France resembles an obstacle course. In Compiègne, in the Oise, the situation appears quite different. Despite more than 5,000 students, the housing supply remains sufficient, according to Le Parisien.

Maria, who lives in Casablanca, chose to go through Crous to find housing. A cheaper and simpler solution for her. "I don’t want to approach a whole bunch of landlords and it will end up being expensive," she explains. With her parents, she opted for this option, especially since the announced rent is 280 euros. "It will allow me to live better," she adds.
In Compiègne, the supply is based on several schemes. The three Crous residences offer 654 rooms and studios. Alesc, the student housing service of the Compiègne University of Technology, also manages two residences, or 600 accommodations, as well as approximately 1,200 private offers. Added to this are announcements from individuals distributed outside these channels.
The city welcomes approximately 4,500 students at UTC, 600 at the School of Organic and Mineral Chemistry, as well as students from IFSI and a business school. However, between internships, work-study programs and trips abroad, not all are present year-round. Result: the local market remains less tense than in other major university cities.

Crous assures that no particular tension is observed once the university term begins. A new residence is even set to open in September 2027 in the former Royallieu barracks, with 69 additional studios. For students from Morocco with a tight budget, Compiègne thus appears as a rare exception: a French university city where finding housing remains possible without exhausting yourself in searches.
