Moroccans’ holidays are now divided between two markets

This summer, Moroccans’ holiday choices are becoming polarized. Destinations accessible without a visa are attracting most of the demand, while a second market continues to favor Southern Europe despite the Schengen constraints.

Moroccans’ holidays are now divided between two markets

The initial trends observed by Moroccan travel agencies through the first week of August show that countries that do not require visas now occupy a dominant place in bookings.

Ease of access is thus becoming a decisive criterion in choosing a destination. Consular procedures, the time it takes to obtain an appointment and the risk of refusal are pushing some travelers toward countries where departure can be organized much more quickly.

This development confirms a trend that has already been visible in recent years: for some Moroccans, holidays now begin with a simple question—whether a visa must be obtained before booking.

Spain remains resilient despite Schengen

But a second market continues to operate according to a different logic. Despite the visa requirement, southern Spain, particularly Andalusia, remains highly attractive, as does Portugal.

For the National Federation of Travel Agencies of Morocco, these European destinations continue to record demand from Moroccan travelers during the summer.

Geographical proximity, air and maritime connections, and travel habits enable Spain to retain a significant Moroccan clientele, even as more easily accessible destinations gain ground.

The foreign holiday market is thus divided between travelers who now prioritize administrative ease and those who remain attached to traditional European destinations despite the constraints associated with the Schengen visa.
