Morocco's Airports See 65% Passenger Surge, Nearing Pre-Pandemic Levels
From June 15 to August 31, 2021, Morocco’s airports recorded a volume of international commercial traffic of 3.5 million passengers. This volume represents a recovery rate of 65% compared to the same period in 2019.
In its latest report on commercial air traffic, the National Airports Office (ONDA) revealed that Moroccan airports have welcomed 31,202 international flights, noting that this volume represents a recovery rate of 77% compared to the same period in 2019.
In detail, Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport welcomed 1,457,154 international passengers, recovering 58% of the 2019 traffic, while Marrakech airport, with 565,680 passengers, recorded a recovery rate of 46%, according to the same source.
Other airports have even exceeded their 2019 traffic, namely the airports of Tetouan (133%), Nador (127%), Tangier (114%), Al Hoceima (106%) and Oujda (105%).
During the month of August 2021 alone, the international commercial traffic of national airports recovered 82% of the 2019 passenger traffic, a rate rivaling that of Mediterranean basin countries, including France (70%), Spain (68%), and Turkey (76%), the Office notes, adding that this performance was recorded thanks to the Marhaba 2021 operation.
