Morocco's Consumer Price Index Rises 1.3% in October, Led by Food Costs
The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.3% during the month of October 2020. These details were provided by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
In an information note, the HCP indicated that this increase is due to the rise in the index of food products by 2.7% and that of non-food products by 0.3%. Regarding non-food products, there was a 1.2% drop in "leisure and culture" and a 1.8% increase in "Education".
As for the increases in food products observed between September and October 2020, they concern "meats" with 4.4%, "vegetables" (3.3%) and "milk, cheese and eggs" (0.9%).
The largest increases in the CPI were recorded in Casablanca and Marrakech with 0.5%, in Dakhla with 0.3% in Rabat, Meknes and Al-Hoceima with 0.2%. The decreases, on the other hand, were observed in Kenitra with 0.8%, in Agadir and Fez (0.4%) and in Oujda, Tetouan, Laayoune and Errachidia (0.3%). Volatile-priced products and publicly-tariffed products would have remained stable compared to September 2020 and increased by 0.2% compared to October 2019.
