The death of a newborn, whose mother fell into a coma during the preparation of her delivery at the regional hospital in Guelmim, is sparking fresh criticism over healthcare management in the province. An investigation is being demanded to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
At this stage, no evidence allows establishing a link between the baby’s death and the dysfunctions denounced in the facility. However, the case raises questions again about the human and material resources available in this hospital, which also welcomes patients from Tan-Tan, Sidi Ifni and Assa-Zag.

A local official claims that the maternity service is among the most affected by staff shortages. According to him, the number of doctors working there has dropped from four to two.
Two doctors for fifteen-day shifts
Each would ensure guard periods reaching fifteen consecutive days, an organization that would place strong pressure on teams and on the care of pregnant women.
The political official also denounces the deterioration of cleanliness in certain parts of the hospital, even reporting the presence of cats in its premises. The scanner has reportedly been broken for nearly a year and a half and only works intermittently, forcing some patients to travel to other cities for their examinations.
He also criticizes the use of foreign doctors to fill vacant positions, arguing that communication difficulties with certain patients can complicate care.
