Morocco imports Asia shipping costs surge July 2026
The shipping company CMA CGM announces a new peak season surcharge applicable from July 1st, 2026. This pricing concerns all goods shipped from major Asian ports to Mediterranean and North African destinations, including Morocco.
In order to continue, it is said, to provide reliable and efficient services to its customers, the carrier CMA CGM has decided to introduce an additional tax (PSS). This tariff measure will apply to all cargo originating from all major Asian ports. The amounts set for this peak season period amount to 1,400 US dollars for a 20-foot container and reach 2,800 US dollars for a 40-foot container.

The application of these new rates will take effect from the loading date of July 1st, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. This surcharge is added to base freight charges as well as any surcharges related to fuel, security or port handling (THC). Furthermore, the document specifies that shipments originating specifically from China will be subject to registration procedures with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
