Morocco Imposes High Anti-Dumping Duties on Egyptian PVC Imports
The Moroccan customs administration has announced the implementation of a provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of Egyptian polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This trade defense measure aims to protect the local market against pricing practices deemed unfair.
Since Friday, June 6, and for a period of four months, all PVC imports from Egypt will be subject to a substantial additional tax. Products from the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company, a major player in the sector, will thus be taxed at 74.87%. For all other Egyptian exporters of this material, the applied duty will be even higher, reaching 92.19%.
This decision follows the conclusions of an investigation conducted by Moroccan authorities. It showed that Egyptian exporters were selling at prices on the Moroccan market significantly lower than normal values, a practice equated to dumping. According to the investigation, this pricing strategy directly harms Moroccan industrialists in the sector.
Formalized by a joint decree of the Ministries of Industry and Economy, the measure’s stated objective is to preserve the competitiveness of national PVC production in the face of these imports.
