Morocco Manufacturing Decline Africa Growth 2026
Moroccan manufacturing production declined at the beginning of 2026, contrary to the growth observed in Africa and worldwide. Data from UNIDO shows that the Kingdom is losing ground against several continental economies.
In the first quarter of 2026, Morocco’s manufacturing production decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous three months, after adjusting for seasonal variations. In the same period, it grew by 0.8% across Africa and by 1.2% globally.

These figures appear in a study by the Institute for Industrial Development Studies (IEDI), based on data from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The year-on-year comparison confirms Morocco’s relative decline. The Kingdom’s production increased by 0.7% compared to the first quarter of 2025, but this growth remains significantly lower than Africa’s 3.8% and the global average of 3.1%.
Morocco in the declining trio
Among African economies cited in the report, only three recorded a decline over the quarter. South Africa shows the largest decline at -0.9%, followed by Egypt at -0.7% and Morocco at -0.5%.
In contrast, Angola recorded a spectacular increase of 25.9%. Production also grew in Rwanda by 1.5%, Nigeria by 1%, Tanzania by 0.9%, and Senegal by 0.6%.

Over one year, Morocco barely outperforms South Africa, whose production fell by 0.3%. It remains far behind Rwanda (+5.5%), Egypt (+4.7%), Senegal (+4.5%), and Nigeria (+2.6%).
