Morocco Ranks 14th Among Cheapest Countries for American Expats, Study Finds
A specialized website has chosen Morocco as one of the 20 countries, among the cheapest to live in for American citizens.
Morocco (Cost of Living Index: 30.1) ranks 14th in the ranking of the 20 cheapest countries for American citizens, compiled by the finance-specialized site Insider Monkey. "Morocco has one of the lowest costs of living for American citizens, where expenses are nearly 70% lower than in the United States. The rent index is only 7.5, while the grocery and restaurant indices were measured at 27.5 and 20.8 respectively by Numbeo in mid-2023," the site specifies. And to add: "According to the US embassy, more than 1,700 American students moved to Morocco during the 2018-2019 academic year to pursue higher education."
Egypt (Cost of Living Index: 21.7) tops the ranking. It is followed by India (Cost of Living Index: 22.9) and Nigeria (Cost of Living Index: 23.2). Nepal (Cost of Living Index: 25.9) and Bangladesh (Cost of Living Index: 26.2) complete the top 5. Uzbekistan (Cost of Living Index: 26.6) takes 6th place while Turkey (Cost of Living Index: 27.1) takes 7th place. They are followed by Tunisia (Cost of Living Index: 27.4), Ghana (Cost of Living Index: 28.5) and Algeria (Cost of Living Index: 28.6). Kenya (Cost of Living Index: 28.9) is in 11th place.
