Morocco Taxi Fares Crackdown: 6-8 Dirhams Only
Authorities want to end summer fares imposed by certain shared taxis between Martil, M’diq and Tétouan. Legal prices remain fixed at 6 and 8 dirhams depending on routes, not 10 dirhams.
The governor of the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture has asked police services to strengthen controls and take necessary measures against drivers who do not comply with official fares.

According to Radio Tetouan, several shared taxis reportedly began applying new prices on routes connecting Martil to M’diq and M’diq to Tétouan, in contradiction with the prefectural order of February 27, 2025.
6 and 8 dirhams, nothing more
The legal fare is 6 dirhams per passenger between Martil and M’diq. It reaches 8 dirhams on the link between M’diq and Tétouan. Any increase decided directly by drivers is therefore considered irregular.
The letter addressed to security officials requests strict application of these prices and reporting of violations to the provincial commission responsible for their enforcement. The stated objective is to protect users and preserve public order.

The problem returns every summer in this region heavily frequented by tourists and MREs. Drivers are regularly accused of imposing a seasonal fare of 10 dirhams, causing complaints from travelers dependent on these taxis to travel between beach resorts and Tétouan.
