Morocco's Tourism Soars: Record-Breaking Revenue Hits 97.4 Billion Dirhams in 2023
Morocco’s tourism revenues increased by 15.8% at the end of November 2023, reaching a record level of nearly 97.4 billion dirhams, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
In its January 2024 economic note, the DPEF details that tourism indicators are in the green, with a 36% increase in the number of arrivals in one year, or nearly 13.3 million arrivals, and a consolidation of 11% compared to 2019.
The number of overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments also recorded a 38% year-on-year increase over the first eleven months of the year. This trend is justified by the notable increase in non-resident (60%) and resident (8%) overnight stays in cities such as Marrakech (+53%), Agadir (+29%), Casablanca (+36%), Tangier (+22%), Fez (+32%), Rabat (+25%), Essaouira (+41%) and Al Haouz (+64%).
The recovery rate of these overnight stays also increased by 101% at the end of November 2023 compared to 2019, against 73% during the same period in 2022.
