Morocco Turns to Spanish Olive Oil Imports Amid Domestic Shortage
Moroccan supermarkets are marketing a significant amount of olive oil imported from Spain this Ramadan month. The operation is carried out by Moroccan companies, often based in Casablanca.

This opening to imports follows an observation: domestic olive oil production is below needs, and prices have soared. To remedy this, authorizations have been granted to Moroccan structures, both companies and cooperatives.
The choice of Spain as a source of supply is easily explained. The country is the undisputed leader in olive oil production around the Mediterranean. Its annual production exceeds one million tons.
