Nearly two out of three raspberries imported into the United Kingdom come from Morocco
Morocco supplied 62.9% of the raspberries imported by the United Kingdom during the 2025-2026 season. Shipments reached a new record even as British purchases declined. In five years, Morocco’s share has nearly tripled.
Between July 2025 and June 2026, the United Kingdom imported approximately 18,400 tonnes of fresh Moroccan raspberries. Their value exceeded 132.7 million pounds sterling, or nearly 155 million euros.
The volume increased by only 1.6% compared with the previous season, but it set a new record. Morocco thus recorded a fifth consecutive year of growth in this market, according to the data compiled by EastFruit.
This increase is all the more significant because British raspberry imports declined overall during the same period. Morocco is therefore selling more in a market that is buying less, mechanically increasing its weight relative to its competitors.
The kingdom has held the top spot among suppliers since the 2022-2023 season. Spain now ranks second, ahead of Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and South Africa.

The breakthrough of raspberries contrasts with the crisis affecting fresh Moroccan strawberries on the export market. Some of the investment and labor in the red-fruit sector is now shifting toward raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, considered more profitable.
From 21.3% to 62.9% in five years
Morocco’s progress is even more apparent over time. During the 2020-2021 season, Morocco accounted for only 21.3% of British imports. Five years later, its share reached 62.9% and its deliveries had multiplied by 2.6.
Since the 2024-2025 season, more than half of the raspberries consumed in the United Kingdom have come from Morocco, according to EastFruit. The latest season brought this dominance to an unprecedented level: of every three imported fresh raspberries, nearly two are now Moroccan.
This performance is based in particular on the production calendar. British raspberries are mainly harvested between June and November. During the rest of the year, distributors must turn to foreign suppliers to ensure the fruit remains continuously available on store shelves.
Morocco’s climate and geographical proximity enable exporters to meet demand when British and European producers reduce their volumes. Rapid transport is also a decisive advantage for a fragile fruit with a limited shelf life.

The outlet is particularly lucrative. The British market for red fruits as a whole exceeded two billion pounds for the first time at the beginning of 2025. Its sales are growing by an average of 4.3% per year, and more than 85% of British consumers buy them, also reports the trade magazine Fruit Today.
Raspberries thus join the agricultural products with which Morocco is rapidly gaining market share abroad. The kingdom is also taking an increasingly prominent position in blueberries, of which it has become the world’s fourth-largest exporter, as well as in mandarins and several fresh vegetables.
