Northern Morocco Rattled by Three Overnight Earthquakes, Magnitudes up to 4.0
Three seismic shocks with magnitudes between 3.8 and 4 degrees on the Richter scale hit Al Hoceima and Driouch, in the night from Monday to Tuesday, December 21, according to the National Institute of Geophysics (ING).
The first shock - whose epicenter is located off the coast of the province of Al Hoceima - with a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale occurred at 01:31:56 (GMT+1) at a depth of 19 km, a latitude of 35.273°N and a longitude of 3.991°W, specified the National Network of Seismic Monitoring and Alert of the ING in a seismic alert bulletin.
The epicenters of the last two shocks are located off the coast of the province of Driouch. The second shock, with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 01:38:48 (GMT+1) at a depth of 13 km, a latitude of 35.551°N and a longitude of 3.602°W, while the third shock, with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 01:58:42 (GMT+1) at a depth of 23 km, a latitude of 35.497°N and a longitude of 3.602°W.
