Oualid Sekkaki trial delayed: drug baron awaits Morocco verdict
The court of first instance in Fès postponed the trial of Oualid Sekkaki. This drug baron, extradited by Belgium, is being prosecuted for international drug trafficking and money laundering with three accomplices.
The chamber responsible for combating money laundering decided to adjourn this new hearing to a later date. This postponement will allow the other defendants in the case to be summoned. Meanwhile, the defense of the main suspect requested additional time to review the evidence and prepare their arguments. Oualid Sekkaki is appearing with three individuals from Tétouan, Oujda and Taounate. This group is suspected of belonging to a criminal network active in international drug and psychotropic substance smuggling, while concealing the origin of its funds.

This drug trafficker was handed over to Moroccan authorities by Belgian justice on March 4, 2022. He was then the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the judicial police of Nador. The defendant is moreover the brother of Ashraf Sekkaki, a man known for his spectacular escapes from Belgian detention centers. The latter is currently behind bars in the Salé penitentiary complex serving a twelve-year sentence, following his famous escape from Bruges prison in July 2009.
