Ryanair dominates Morocco Spain flights with 58% market share
Ryanair dominates direct flights between Morocco and Spain. The Irish airline alone carries more passengers than all its competitors combined.

On the air market between Morocco and Spain, Ryanair has taken a spectacular lead. According to Turespaña’s 2025 report on the Moroccan tourism market, the Irish airline represented 58% of passengers transported in 2024 on direct flights between the two countries.

This market share illustrates true supremacy. By itself, Ryanair outperforms all other airlines operating on this route. Air Arabia comes far behind with 13% of the market, followed by Royal Air Maroc with 12%, Iberia-Air Nostrum with 11%, Vueling with 5%, and Binter Canarias with 1%.
This dominance occurs in a context of strong recovery in air traffic between the two countries. In 2024, available seats from Morocco to Spain reached 2.47 million, up 10% year-on-year. Passengers actually transported were nearly 1.95 million, representing growth of 13.1%, for a total of 15,199 flights.
Ryanair also strengthened its presence with new routes. In 2024, the airline opened Barcelona-Tangier and Murcia-Marrakech routes. The report also noted the opening, in January 2025, of Madrid-Dakhla and Lanzarote-Dakhla routes, two connections that give even more visibility to Morocco in the low-cost airline’s Spanish network.
This strategy allows Ryanair to serve multiple segments simultaneously: tourist travel, family trips, short breaks, and connections used by Moroccans residing in Spain. The airline also benefits from strong demand between major Moroccan cities and Spanish regions where significant Moroccan communities live.
Madrid remains the leading Spanish air hub for passengers from Morocco. The capital concentrates 32.5% of traffic from ten Moroccan cities, including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Fès, Nador, Tétouan, and Agadir. Catalonia captures 27.5% of traffic, while Andalusia represents 18.4%.
The momentum accelerated further during summer 2025. AENA forecasts cited by Turespaña projected 1.89 million available seats between July and October 2025, representing a 65.3% increase year-on-year. Madrid, Catalonia, and Andalusia concentrated most of this capacity.
For Royal Air Maroc, the contrast is stark. The Moroccan national airline maintains an important position on the Spain-Morocco route, but remains far behind Ryanair in passenger numbers. With 12% market share, it ranks almost level with Air Arabia and Iberia-Air Nostrum, but far from the Irish leader.

This Ryanair dominance shows how low-cost airlines now structure travel between Morocco and Spain. For Moroccan travelers, the offer is denser, often more affordable, and covers an increasing number of cities. For other airlines, the battle promises to be difficult against an operator that has already gained considerable advantage.
