The United States reveals 90 temporary admissions of Moroccans at its southern border
U.S. authorities granted 90 “paroles” to Moroccan nationals encountered at the border with Mexico between October 2018 and May 2025. This procedure allowed them to enter the United States temporarily without constituting a regular admission to the country.
The figure appears in a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) published on May 18. Based on data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the agency lists “humanitarian parole” decisions by nationality: 90 concerned Morocco.

The distinction is important: the GAO counts parole decisions and not necessarily 90 different people, as the same individual may exceptionally have obtained more than one. The report also does not make it possible to determine when the Moroccan cases occurred.
A temporary entry, not regularization
“Parole” temporarily authorizes a foreign national to enter and remain in the United States, particularly for urgent humanitarian reasons or a significant public benefit. It does not constitute an immigration status or a final admission. The people concerned may subsequently be placed in removal proceedings or apply for protection or another status for which they would be eligible.
It would also be incorrect to claim that all 90 Moroccan cases correspond to clandestine crossings of the Mexican border. Of the 2.4 million paroles examined, 68% were granted by U.S. officers at official ports of entry and 32% by the Border Patrol between those ports. The GAO does not provide this breakdown specifically for Moroccans.
The report finally raises a broader issue: ICE, which is responsible for monitoring foreign nationals released in the United States during their proceedings, does not always have the information needed to easily identify all people admitted under parole and monitor them in accordance with its own rules. The GAO does not, however, say whether any of the Moroccan cases are affected by these shortcomings.
