Total strike in Belgium: Charleroi and Zaventem ground travelers to Morocco
Air traffic departing from Belgium will be paralyzed this Thursday, March 12 due to a national demonstration. This social movement is leading to the systematic cancellation of takeoffs, seriously disrupting the many passengers departing for Morocco.
Charleroi airport has announced that no flights will be operated during Thursday. At Brussels Airport (Zaventem), the situation is just as critical: while landings could be maintained, no passenger flights will be allowed to take off due to the strike by security agents and handling staff.
This paralysis is the consequence of a union mobilization against the policy of the federal government. Brussels Airlines has already anticipated the cancellation of almost all of its flight schedule, offering its customers modification or refund options free of charge, regardless of the initial fare conditions. This is also the case for Royal Air Maroc, which has provided solutions to its customers via Amsterdam.
In addition to the air blockade, access to airports will be made difficult by the planned strikes on the STIB and TEC urban transport networks. This day of protest follows a three-day movement on the Belgian rail network, whose alternative service coordinated by the SNCB ends this Wednesday evening at 10 p.m.
Passengers are strongly advised to check the status of their flight with their airline before traveling. The carriers have committed to contacting the affected travelers to organize their rerouting or to fully refund the tickets to the impacted Moroccan destinations.
