A Wild Boar Attacks 11-Year-Old Ahmed in Charleroi, City Calls in Hunters
Ahmed, 11, was seriously injured by a wild boar while playing football with friends in Charleroi. After the attack, the city organized a hunt with 25 hunters and is now preparing further operations.
The incident dates back to the end of May. Ahmed was playing near the former Marchienne-Docherie field when he went to retrieve his ball from some undergrowth. A sow, probably accompanied by her piglets, then emerged and bit him several times on the hand, reports La DH.

His friends managed to scare the animal away by shouting. Seriously injured, the boy had to undergo major surgery.
25 hunters sent to the scene
After the attack, a hunt was organized nearby with 25 hunters, five trackers and five dogs. Six wild boars were spotted, but none could be shot for safety reasons.
The city of Charleroi is already carrying out several population-control operations in the worst-affected areas. In total, 82 wild boars were shot during the 2025-2026 season, notably at Nelson Mandela Park, the Martinet slag heap and the Saint-Théodore slag heap.
The authorities now want to go further. A program of hunts throughout the entire territory is being prepared with a licensed hunter, while permits for stalking hunts have been requested in certain areas.

A prevention campaign has also been launched to explain to residents how to react when faced with a wild boar. After Ahmed’s serious injury, Charleroi above all wants to prevent another child from encountering an animal while simply going to retrieve his ball.
