Adriana Karembeu wanted her daughter in Monaco, but the courts are keeping her in Marrakech

The Monegasque courts found an intermediate solution in the conflict opposing Adriana Karembeu and her husband Aram Ohanian over their 8-year-old daughter.

In an order issued on Wednesday, September 2, the conciliating judge maintained the joint exercise of parental authority and arranged shared custody. But on the particularly sensitive issue of the child’s residence, the judge did not side with the former model.

Nina’s habitual residence remains with her father in Marrakech, according to the order consulted by Le Parisien.

The girl will also continue attending the American school where she has been enrolled since 2021 in the Moroccan city.

Adriana Karembeu had requested that her daughter’s habitual residence be transferred to Monaco and that Nina continue her schooling there. Aram Ohanian, for his part, had requested sole custody.

The judge accepted neither of these requests.

In keeping the child in Marrakech, the courts relied in particular on the stability of her environment. Nina has her school, activities and relationships there. Both parents also described her as thriving and well-balanced in her current routine.

A transfer to Monaco could therefore have caused her to lose her bearings.

This decision comes after several months of a particularly tense battle between Adriana Karembeu and Aram Ohanian, fought between Monaco, Paris and Marrakech.

One week out of every two with her mother

Keeping Nina’s residence in Marrakech does not mean that Aram Ohanian has obtained sole custody of her.

During school periods, Adriana Karembeu will be able to have her daughter stay with her from Friday evening of an even-numbered week until the following Friday. The holidays will also be shared between the two parents according to a precise schedule.

The mother will therefore have custody of the child half the time, even though her habitual residence and school remain in Morocco.

This is the aspect of the order that Adriana Karembeu chose to highlight in a statement published after the decision.

“The Court of First Instance of the Principality of Monaco has just issued a decision that vindicates me,” she said.

The former model believes that her “essential role” in Nina’s life has been recognized by the courts. She says that her daughter remains her “absolute priority” and that her place beside her is now fully confirmed.

The father’s camp focuses on another part of the decision: despite shared custody, Nina’s center of life remains in Marrakech.

Adriana Karembeu was also denied a request concerning the payment of 10,000 euros per month. Aram Ohanian must nevertheless continue to cover alone the school and extracurricular expenses, as well as unreimbursed medical costs and exceptional expenses for their daughter.

Nina’s residence had become one of the main issues in the family war pitting the two parents against each other before the Moroccan courts.

In recent months, Aram Ohanian has initiated several proceedings in which he has called into question his daughter’s environment when she is with her mother and Marc Lavoine.

A first investigation opened in Paris for evasion of parental obligations was closed without further action on June 23, due to a lack of sufficiently substantiated evidence.

The father then filed a new complaint as a civil party against Adriana Karembeu and Marc Lavoine. He accuses them of various acts that, in his view, may have compromised Nina’s safety or education. The individuals concerned dispute these accusations.

Adriana Karembeu, for her part, accuses her husband, from whom she has been separated for several years, of violence, pressure and legal harassment. Aram Ohanian also disputes these accusations.

The Monegasque order therefore does not bring an end to the divorce or to the various proceedings initiated in France, Morocco and Monaco.

Nevertheless, it provisionally settles one of the most important issues for Nina’s immediate future.

Each parent can claim part of the decision: Adriana Karembeu obtains an arrangement allowing her to live with her daughter every other week, while Aram Ohanian retains Nina’s habitual residence and schooling in Marrakech.
