Banned, seized… but still rented out for 30 DH on Morocco’s northern beaches
On several beaches in M’diq-Fnideq, parasols and chairs continue to be offered for rent even though the operators concerned reportedly do not have the required permits. In the middle of the summer season, a parasol costs 30 dirhams and a chair 10 dirhams.
Hespress reports having observed the continuation of this activity on several beaches along the Tamuda Bay coastline, despite decisions aimed at ending the unauthorized commercial exploitation of certain areas of the public maritime domain.

The situation is notably causing tensions at several beaches, where clashes have been reported between some operators and holidaymakers challenging the occupation of the beach and the sums being demanded.
Seizures, but the rentals continue
An authority official seized several chairs and parasols. However, the media describes the intervention as selective, since the activity continues on the beaches concerned.
Holidaymakers are questioning the continuation of these rentals and the destination of the revenue generated by an activity which, according to the reported information, does not have the necessary permits. Above all, they are calling for the rules to be applied uniformly.

The protesters are calling on the local authorities to strengthen inspections and put an end to unlicensed commercial operations whenever they are identified. For them, the issue goes beyond the 30 dirhams for the parasol or the 10 dirhams for the chair: it also concerns holidaymakers’ free access to the public maritime domain and the commercial occupation of spaces that, in their view, must remain accessible to everyone.
