Escaped with fake police officers, Franco-Moroccan “Ganito” sentenced to nine years

The verdict was handed down at around 1 a.m., during the night from Friday 11 to Saturday 12 September, by the Paris judicial court. Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, was also fined 80,000 euros and remains in detention. Prosecutors had sought a ten-year prison sentence and a 100,000-euro fine.

The young man was found to have commissioned the home invasion suffered by Gianluigi Donnarumma, then Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper, and his partner Alessia Elefante in their Paris apartment in July 2023. He allegedly organized the operation while he himself was incarcerated.

“Ganito” has always denied any involvement. He maintained that the phones on which investigators found exchanges and videos were also used by other inmates. The court did not accept this defense, reports Le Monde.

Donnarumma and his partner tied up and assaulted

During the night of 20 to 21 July 2023, the couple was awakened from their sleep and then tied up. Gianluigi Donnarumma was struck in the face with reinforced gloves, while his partner, who was pregnant at the time, was strangled with a charging cable.

The attackers took cash, jewelry, watches and luxury bags. The Italian goalkeeper estimated the haul at just under one million euros.

The public prosecutor’s office described the case as evidence of “ultra-violent” criminality. It also recalled that Alessia Elefante suffered a miscarriage shortly afterward, which the prosecution attributed to the shock she experienced during the assault.

Presented as a second mastermind, Khyan M., 22, was, however, acquitted. Prosecutors had sought nine years in prison for him. Moktar D., tasked with keeping watch outside the building, was sentenced to five years in prison, two of them suspended subject to probation.

Ilyas Kherbouch is a Franco-Moroccan born in March 2005. Incarcerated since the age of 14 and already convicted several times, his name appears in various burglary cases involving unlawful confinement.

His notoriety exploded on 7 March 2026 following his spectacular escape from Villepinte prison. Accomplices wearing fake police armbands had arrived with fake professional identification cards and a falsified judicial warrant to obtain his transfer. Prison staff allowed him to leave through the main entrance.

The manhunt lasted only thirteen days. “Ganito” was arrested on 20 March in Canet-en-Roussillon, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. This new conviction further worsens his legal situation: according to calculations presented by the prosecutor at the hearing, he could now not be released from prison before April 2043.
