Hotel, money and business creation: what London plans for Moroccans sent back to their country
The United Kingdom has just detailed the assistance offered to Moroccans without the right to remain who return voluntarily or are sent back to Morocco. Upon arrival, they may receive accommodation, money for their immediate needs and support extending to the creation of a business.
The scheme was presented on 15 September by the British Home Office. It concerns Moroccan nationals who no longer have legal status or the right to remain in the United Kingdom, whether they agree to return voluntarily or are sent back by the authorities.
Upon their arrival in Morocco, they may be met at the airport, receive up to five nights of accommodation and be transported to an address in the kingdom. Packages containing food and essential goods may also be provided to them.
London is also planning a small cash allowance to cover immediate needs. Its amount is not specified. These emergency benefits must be requested and used within five days of returning to Morocco.

Support can then continue for twelve months. Beneficiaries may receive help finding their family, obtaining Moroccan documents, accessing local services or receiving psychological support.
A fund to create a business in Morocco
The most important aspect concerns long-term reintegration. Moroccans sent back may access a British fund dedicated to the education and entrepreneurship of people returning to their country.
This fund is intended in particular to facilitate access to the Moroccan labour market, the creation of a business, vocational training or the resumption of studies. The programme may also support beneficiaries who have a legal possibility of subsequently emigrating to a third country.
Interested individuals must contact the organisation IRARA no later than three months after their arrival. This assistance may also be granted to those who have already benefited from the British voluntary return service or the scheme reserved for detained foreign nationals who agree to leave the United Kingdom.
The programme could therefore concern both unsuccessful asylum seekers, such as this Moroccan woman whose case had been rejected on the basis of an untraceable report, and foreign nationals threatened with deportation after being convicted in the United Kingdom.

In Morocco, support is provided by the association Asticude, an IRARA partner based in Nador. It must offer personalised follow-up, advice, training and assistance with starting a business. London is therefore not only covering the first days following the return: its new scheme provides for follow-up lasting up to one year in an attempt to durably stabilise Moroccans sent back to their country.
