Montauban accident: 3 Moroccan workers killed, 2 critical
Three Moroccan agricultural workers lost their lives in a head-on collision that occurred Monday in Montauban, in Tarn-et-Garonne. Two other occupants of the vehicle remain hospitalized in Toulouse with a vital prognosis at stake.
The accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on departmental road 820, the former national road 20. The Smart in which the five seasonal workers were traveling crossed the white line before colliding head-on with a heavy truck traveling without a trailer.

The deceased victims are the driver, aged 62, as well as two passengers aged 60 and 34. The two other men were airlifted in absolute emergency to Toulouse-Purpan hospital.
Two injured still unidentified
Since no identity documents were found on the two seriously injured, their identity had not yet been established the day after the tragedy. Some occupants are said to have been housed in a reception center in Montauban and were likely working in the surrounding orchards.
Both vehicles were seized for judicial expert examination. The truck driver’s tests came back negative, while autopsies and additional toxicological tests were ordered, reports La Dépêche du Midi.

Investigators are trying to determine why the Smart suddenly swerved. A mechanical failure, a burst tire, a sudden illness or driver drowsiness are among the hypotheses being examined.
