Morocco Bans Pro-Iran Protests in Rabat and Tangier
Authorities in Morocco banned several demonstrations in solidarity with Iran in Rabat and Tangier on Saturday. The move comes as the Kingdom condemned Iranian missile attacks against the Gulf.
In Rabat, a heavy riot-control deployment was stationed along Mohamed V Avenue to prevent a gathering called by Islamist and left-wing groups. Police blocked dozens of demonstrators, including leaders of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), from accessing the Parliament esplanade. In Tangier, an attempt to gather in Iberia Square was also dispersed by law enforcement, with no violent incident reported.

Diplomatically, Morocco officially condemned Iran’s “flagrant” missile attack on the territories of several Arab countries, notably the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. However, Rabat has not commented on the direct armed conflict opposing Iran, the United States, and Israel.

This tension unfolds against the backdrop of the rupture in diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tehran since May 2018. In response, Tehran launched strikes against Israel and American bases located in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait.
