Morocco Ferry Cancellations Anger MRE Travelers During Marhaba
Ferry cancellations between Motril and Al Hoceima are sparking outrage among many MREs from the Rif region. During peak Operation Marhaba, several travelers are forced to change ports, facing longer routes and additional expenses.
The maritime link between Motril and Al Hoceima has become a nightmare for many MREs. All crossings scheduled between July 7 and 13 have been cancelled, according to the Assorif association, which is demanding explanations from shipping company Armas.

The association denounces repeated cancellations on this summer route, heavily used by Moroccans from Europe originating from the Rif. Many had already booked their tickets, arranged their accommodation and planned family visits before being informed of these disruptions.
Without a direct link to Al Hoceima, several travelers must now resort to other Moroccan ports. This means more kilometers, more time on the road and additional expenses, during peak season for MRE returns.
Explanations demanded from Armas
Asorif is calling on Armas to clarify the reasons for these cancellations and guarantee regular service resumption. The association emphasizes the importance of this route for directly connecting Europe to the Rif, especially during Operation Marhaba.
The issue has also been raised in Parliament. Deputy Abdelhak Amghar questioned the Minister of Transport and Logistics about the lack of direct connections between Al Hoceima and Spanish ports during this period. He is calling for measures to restore this maritime link and improve travel conditions for MREs.
