Morocco hotel prices spike: tourists flee to Spain for better deals
In northern Morocco, hotel rooms are reaching nearly 5,000 dirhams per night. Facing this price surge, some families are giving up their usual destinations between Tétouan and Fnideq and prefer to spend their vacations in Spain.
Restaurants, cafés, shops and leisure activities are experiencing lower attendance during the week, despite hotels that are often full during weekends and public holidays.

Professionals are especially pointing to accommodation prices. Some rooms in three-star hotels are offered between 2,400 and 2,800 dirhams, while four-star establishments are approaching 5,000 dirhams per night.
The increase also affects furnished rentals. A high-end three-bedroom apartment can cost between 1,800 and 2,400 dirhams per night, compared to around 1,600 dirhams previously.
According to Médias24, vacationers loyal to Cabo Negro, Martil, Kabila, Restinga or Marina Smir are now choosing Spain, where the value for money is considered more advantageous.
The North is losing vacationers to Spain
Hotels continue to display full occupancy during peak periods, notably thanks to short stays from MREs and travelers passing through Sebta. But this activity concentrated over a few days is not enough to support the entire local economy.
When families dedicate a large part of their budget to accommodation or shorten their stay, they also spend less in restaurants, leisure and shops.
