Morocco's Military Budget Surges to $4.12 Billion, Nearly Doubling in a Decade
Moroccan military spending has increased from $2.36 billion in 2009 to $4.12 billion in 2019. This is what the latest report from the US State Department indicates.
In its latest report entitled "World Military Expenditures and Arms Transfers (WMEAT)" released on Thursday, the US State Department states that Morocco’s military spending represented 3.7% of its national GDP in 2019. The kingdom imported $1 billion worth of arms from the United States from 2017 to 2019, $100 million from European Union (EU) countries, $100 million from non-EU European countries, and finally $200 million from China, it is also specified.

What about the military workforce? With 220,000 soldiers (including 180,000 enlisted in the army, 9,000 in the navy and 13,000 in the air force) in 2019, or 0.65% of the population and 1.90% of the total workforce, Morocco is ranked 25th in the world.
