Morocco's Port Passenger Traffic Plummets 85% Amid Pandemic
Passenger traffic in ports has decreased by 85% at the end of August 2020 compared to the same period last year, according to the National Ports Agency (ANP).
Passenger transit traffic through the ports reached 268,799 passengers at the end of August 2020. According to the National Ports Agency, traffic is down 85% compared to the same period last year.
97% is the share of global passenger traffic transit through the ports of Tangier-ville and Nador. This rate accounts for a total of 185,094 passengers (-84.2%) for the port of Tangier-ville. As for the port of Nador, the transit is 76,159 passengers (-85.1%).
During the first eight months of 2020, cruise ship activity experienced a significant decline of 73% with a total of 29,570 cruise passengers, including 8,968 cruise passengers (-55.3%) through the port of Tangier-ville, 650 cruise passengers (-98%) in Casablanca and 19,952 cruise passengers, or -64.8% in Agadir, compared to 109,345 cruise passengers at the end of August 2019.
The TIR traffic in the ports, over the last eight months, reached a volume of 12,261 units, up 22.1% compared to 2019. The port of Nador alone has handled 12,199 units, or 99.5% of the total TIR traffic.
