MRE: They Pay for the Ferry, but the Ticket Disappears at the Port

The matter allegedly began in a WhatsApp group bringing together more than 1,000 Moroccans living in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and other European countries. The space was initially used to exchange advice and assist families during their journey to Morocco.

A man presenting himself as the owner of an agency based in Ksar Sghir allegedly joined the group to offer ferry reservations. Also active on TikTok, he reportedly gained the members’ trust through what were considered attractive prices and several apparently successful initial transactions.

Paid for once, stranded at the port

According to testimonies collected by Rue20, travelers sent their information, made the payment, and then received images presented as booking confirmations. But at the port, some reportedly learned that their ticket did not exist in the company’s system or that the reservation had been canceled.

The amounts paid reportedly reached 5,200 dirhams in some cases. After a long journey with their children and luggage, several families had to buy a new ticket, sometimes for nearly 5,000 dirhams during the peak season, or postpone their crossing.

Some complainants claim they borrowed money or dipped into their savings to finance this second purchase. They believe that this situation jeopardized holidays they had been planning for several months.

Complaints were filed with the public prosecutor’s office, accompanied by proof of bank transfers, electronic conversations and the reservation documents received. The investigation will now have to establish what actually happened, identify any potential liability and determine whether the travelers will be able to recover the amounts paid.
