MREs paid for their apartment in Marrakech… nine years later, they are still waiting for it
Hundreds of families, including MREs, have been waiting for years for their apartment in the Al Ghali project in Marrakech. After sometimes substantial payments and a stalled construction site, work has finally resumed, nine years after the launch of the program’s last phase.
The restart was reported by Al3omk. The Al Ghali project, located in Massira 3, has been mired in a lengthy dispute with its buyers. Last February, the number of families still affected was estimated at around 550.

A parliamentary question addressed to the government detailed, as early as 2023, a program comprising 805 housing units, including 100 social housing units and 705 affordable units. At that time, 191 families had obtained their homes, while 614 others were still waiting.
Some buyers had paid part of the price, while others had, according to that same parliamentary question, paid the full amounts requested without receiving their apartment. The beneficiaries had multiplied their efforts with the authorities in Marrakech and Al Omrane to demand that the project be completed.
MREs among the buyers
The case also affects Moroccans residing abroad. In July 2025, several MREs had filed a complaint concerning their reservations in the project. They claimed to have fulfilled their financial commitments without receiving the homes promised several years earlier.

A first partial solution had been initiated at the beginning of 2026: 57 families from the social housing component had been selected to receive apartments in another project. But in July, some beneficiaries were still waiting for their homes, while more than 500 families were still affected by Al Ghali.
