Rapper Morad wanted to film a police check, but ended up being detained himself
Spanish rapper of Moroccan origin Morad was arrested Sunday in Barcelona. He is accused of striking a municipal police officer in the arm after the officer asked him to move away from a scooter check that did not concern him.
The incident took place on Sunday, September 20, at the intersection of Pau Claris and Mallorca streets, in central Barcelona. Two Guardia Urbana officers had just stopped the rider of an electric scooter who was riding without a helmet.
Morad then approached and began filming the intervention with his phone. According to police sources cited by El País, the rapper did not merely record the scene: he also allegedly confronted the officers while they were issuing the rider a ticket.
The police officers asked him to show his identification. Morad allegedly replied that he did not have it with him. The officers then attempted to move him away from the check.

That was when the situation allegedly escalated. According to the police version of events, the artist allegedly struck one of the officers in the arm. He was immediately detained on suspicion of assaulting an authority figure.
A third person arrived during the arrest and began insulting the police officers. This person was not detained but was subject to proceedings for disrespecting the officers.
A new case after the June incident
This arrest comes three months after another confrontation in Barcelona. On June 17, a man accused the rapper of pushing him during an argument that occurred in a parking lot. Morad was subsequently reported for failing to show his identification and for disobedience. Those around him claimed at the time that the argument had started after a racist insult targeting his Moroccan origins.
The singer has already had several run-ins with the Spanish justice system. In 2024, he had accepted a two-year prison sentence after disturbances occurred during the filming of a music video. The sentence had not resulted in his immediate imprisonment.

Morad nevertheless spent several months in prison that same year for another case, related to dangerous driving dating back to 2022. His semi-liberty was subsequently revoked.
