Studying in Belgium will cost some Moroccans more than 18,000 euros

The amount concerns students from a country outside the European Union who do not benefit from any exemption.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the full-rate tuition fee is set at 1,194 euros. An additional contribution of 4,175 euros is added to this amount for the non-European students concerned.

The bill therefore reaches 5,369 euros for a single year of study.

The previous year, the full tuition fee was 835 euros. With the additional contribution unchanged, the cost therefore increases by 359 euros.

More than 5,000 euros before even finding accommodation

These 5,369 euros cover only university enrollment. The student must then pay for housing, transportation, food and all everyday expenses in Belgium.

They must also prove that they have sufficient means of subsistence to obtain their visa or student residence permit.

For 2026-2027, the required minimum is set at 1,062 euros per month, or 12,744 euros for one year. This amount is not a tuition fee: it must remain available to enable the student to live during their stay.

A student subject to the maximum rate must therefore be able to finance more than 18,000 euros over the year between enrollment and means of subsistence, even before taking into account any additional costs related to travel or settling in.

However, not all Moroccan students will pay 5,369 euros. Exemptions exist, notably depending on the residence permit, family situation, certain scholarships or the program followed.

The official Wallonie-Bruxelles Campus portal recommends that students check directly with their institution the amount applicable to their situation.

For Moroccans without an exemption, the ceiling is clear: 5,369 euros just to enroll in French-speaking Belgium in 2026-2027.
