Tanger Med Red Alert: 500 Vehicles Per Hour Threshold
Tanger Med has set its critical threshold for major summer departures. When traffic exceeds 500 vehicles per hour, the port switches to the highest alert level and immediately reinforces the resources deployed to prevent saturation.
This system is part of the measures prepared for Operation Marhaba 2026, as the busiest periods are expected between July 11 and August 10 for arrivals, then from August 13 to 30 for returns to Europe.

Traffic management is based on four levels, from green when traffic flows smoothly to critical level when flows exceed the 500 vehicles per hour threshold. Each level should allow teams, waiting areas and control operations to be adapted to the situation observed.
A port designed for major peaks
According to Tanger Med, the terminal has nine quays, eight of which are dedicated to passengers and vehicles, 20 check-in counters and 3,000 parking spaces. Four mobile scanners should also speed up controls during busy days.
The port has built up reserves of drinking water and food supplies, installed five fixed distribution points and planned mobile teams. A refrigerated container should allow products intended for passengers stranded in case of prolonged delays to be preserved.
During Operation Marhaba 2025, Tanger Med welcomed 1.78 million passengers and 463,321 vehicles. The port ensured 3,449 crossings, mainly on the line with Algeciras.

MREs called to travel during the busiest days are invited to book a crossing on a specific date, to check their documents before departure and to purchase their tickets only through official channels.
